SERVICES AND SUPPORT AT AMERICAN LEGION POST 21
American Legion Post 21 is much more than a meeting place—it serves as a critical hub for supporting veterans and their families in Northeast Arkansas. The post works as a connector between veterans and the many services available to them, ensuring they receive the assistance they deserve.
Veteran Support Services:
Provide referrals and advocacy to help veterans access benefits and resources.
Work closely with:
County Veterans Service Officer (located at the courthouse)
VA Medical Clinic
Veterans Center at Arkansas State University (ASU)
Assist with connecting veterans to services including:
Occupational therapy
Physical therapy
Mental health therapy
Service dog training and acquisition
Food assistance through the Beck Center
Hobbies such as fly fishing and guitar classes
Collaborate with ASU faculty and graduate students to expand programs and provide
specialized services.
Educate veterans about their full range of benefits through the VA system, as many are
unaware of all available resources.
Burial & Memorial Services:
Provide guidance for burial at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Birdeye,
where veterans, their spouses, and dependent children are eligible for free burial,
including headstones and military honors.
Conduct military funeral honors at services for veterans.
Community Involvement:
Sponsor Boy Scout Troops, Cub Scout Troops, Boys State, Girls State, Junior
ROTC, and ROTC programs.
Educate local fifth graders in Craighead County on how to properly fold and respect
the American flag.
Plan to allow the current facility to be used by other community organizations of similar
size in the future.
Store flags for the Military Officers Association in the building.
